Renowned mountaineer Kami Rita Sherpa has once again etched his name in the annals of mountain climbing history by achieving a remarkable feat today. Early this morning, Kami Rita, affectionately known as the “Everest Man,” successfully reached the summit of the world’s eighth highest peak, Mt. Manaslu. This remarkable accomplishment came as part of the SST/14 Peaks expedition, as confirmed by Tashi Lakpa Sherpa, Director at Seven Summit Treks.
Sharing the exciting news, Tashi Lakpa Sherpa stated, “Kami Rita, accompanied by fellow climbers, reached the true summit of Mt. Manaslu at 8:10 am.” With this ascent, Kami Rita has now secured a world record for the “most climbs of 8,000m peaks,” totaling an astonishing 42 summits of 8,000-meter peaks to date. Tashi Lakpa Sherpa proudly added, “Kami Rita’s triumphant climb of Manaslu solidifies his status as the ‘most successful ascent of 8,000m peaks by any individual.'”
In the previous spring season, Kami Rita had already made history by conquering Mt. Everest for the 28th time, firmly establishing himself as the record-holder for the most ascents of the world’s highest peak. Kami Rita, who currently serves as a Senior Climbing Guide at Seven Summit Treks Pvt Ltd, first scaled Mt. Everest on May 13, 1994. Over the course of his illustrious career spanning from 1994 to 2023, he has summited Mt. Everest 27 times, K2 and Mt. Lhotse once each, Mt. Manaslu four times, and Cho Oyu an impressive eight times.
Born on January 2, 1970, Kami Rita Sherpa’s passion for mountaineering was ignited at a young age, and he has dedicated over two decades to scaling the world’s most challenging peaks. His remarkable journey into the world of mountaineering commenced in 1992 when he joined an Everest expedition as a support staff member.
